Below is some information about the different workshops that Mary offers.
Workshop #1:
1 day, Saturday or Sunday: 6 hours, $60/person, minimum 10 students, maximum 15 students.
Workshops #2:
2 days, Saturday & Sunday: 6 hours each day, $85/person. If the workshop location is more than 50 miles from my home, I will need meals and one night's lodging provided.
Registration:
Deadline for signing up is two weeks prior to workshop. Payment in full at time of registration, no refunds unless the class is cancelled.
Space Requirements:
- Table space with enough room for each student to work comfortably, (1 - 2 students per 8'X 2 1/2' table)
- Two extra tables for demonstration and teacher's supplies.
- Room must have adequate lighting and ventilation.
- Uncarpeted floor for easier cleanup in the event dyes are spilled.
- Wall space to hang finished work.
- Access to water.
Students need to bring the following:
- Rubber or disposable laytex gloves if you don't want to get dye on your hands. I don't wear them unless I'm doing an imersion dye bath. A small amount of dye on your skin isn't going to harm them.
- Masking tape
- Push pins for pinning fabric to the frame, metal ones work best - at least 2 dozen
- Hair dryer - to increase drying time of the resist we will be using
- 3-4 small water color type paint brushes to draw designs on the silk with the resist.
- Lunch
- Old clothes that won't be ruined if you get dye on them.
- Scissors
- A large self addressed stamped Manilla envelope so I can mail your finished piece to you; 4 stamps should cover the postage. (I will take your work home with me to steam in my steamer.)
- One or two rags for wiping up spills.
- 4-6 plastic yogurt cups or plastic cups to put your dye in.
- Your imagination and willingness to learn and HAVE FUN doing it !!!!!
- will be stretching the scarves on canvas stretcher frames and I have 3 different sizes: 12"x72", 12" x 60" and 36" squares.
- Cost for the pre-washed and hemmed scarves will range from $5 - $10 each.
- Bring sketches of designs you might want to try. Go to my web site www.salomesilk.com to look at the designs I do.
- I'd suggest doing at least 2 that will work on a square format and another for a long regtangle. Keep your designs simple - remember
- "Less is More".
Other Information:
In the 1 day workshops students will have time to do 2 - 3 scarves or fabric squares. In the 2 day workshops we will explore other techniques such as stamping, foiling and stenciling using thickened dyes and over already dyed pieces.
